Classes in the Young Artists' Studio series are studio classes specially designed for homeschooled students, giving them hands-on experience in various forms of art. Join us for all six unique Fridays or sign up for only the classes you wish to attend. Each class features a different topic and medium. Students will be encouraged to explore their own personal creativity while being provided step-by-step instruction in the technical processes of each medium.

Luminaries - Paper, Light, and Shadow!
Description
Illuminate your room with beautiful hand-cut paper lanterns inspired by the work of Jaq Belcher, an artist specializing in hand-cut, large-scale designs incorporating light, shadow, texture and geometry. Her captivating pieces are currently on display in the exhibit The Possibilities of Paper in the Torggler’s Anne Noland Edwards Gallery until October 15. The instructor will guide participants through the process of designing, cutting and punching safely to create a one-of-a-kind luminary that will light up your room. Students will design two different unique paper luminaries complete with light to enjoy at home.

Sew Awesome! Embroidery for Kids
Description
Embark on a colorful journey into the world of embroidery! In this beginner-friendly workshop, kids will learn the art of embroidery by creating a personalized design. They'll explore basic embroidery stitches and experiment with different threads. Let's stitch together and bring imagination to life with thread and fabric!

Procreate Stickers
Description
You are never too old for stickers! Using Procreate on classroom-provided iPads, participants will create several designs that will be print-ready. Each participant will take home several copies of their stickers, which can be placed on books, computers and drink bottles. Whether you are new to sticker making or have created stickers in the past, you can never have too many stickers!

PRINTASTIC! Exploring the Art of Printmaking!
Description
Step into the world of printmaking through a class designed especially for kids! Explore the techniques of lithography, relief printing, and miniature engravings. Utilizing a unique, 3D-printed printing press and under the guidance of our instructors, students will create prints from these three distinct printmaking methods. Each original plate will enable the creation of multiple prints of a single design. Students will take home their original plate as well as several prints from each.

Wheel Throwing - Two Classes
Description
In this two-part, hands-on, beginner-friendly wheel-throwing, participants will learn how to work on the wheel to create unique and functional pieces. In the first class, we’ll learn to center, open, and pull walls on the potter’s wheel. In the second part, students will learn how to trim their previously thrown pieces, and craft handles, and learn to glaze their work before firing. Once our firing process is complete, your pieces will be safe to eat and drink from!
Please note that some of the creations may require additional time for proper drying and firing, extending approximately a week beyond the class duration. Clay and necessary supplies will be provided.

Oil Painting- Two Classes
Description
Working in oils on your own can be a challenge. Let us help you get started in this two-part workshop! We invite teenagers aged 13-17 to join us for an immersive journey into the fundamentals of oil painting. Whether you're a complete beginner or have some prior experience, this workshop will provide a solid foundation for your artistic endeavors. Led by an experienced instructor, students will be guided in safety precautions, painting techniques, and color theory. Students will engage in constructive group discussions and critiques to gain different perspectives on their work. Learn how to provide and receive feedback that nurtures artistic growth.
All materials will be provided, and no prior experience is necessary. Space is limited, so be sure to secure your spot in advance.

Classes that are full will have a waiting list. You can sign up for the waiting list for a specific class by calling (757) 594-0800.
Cancellation Policy
Unless otherwise stated during the registration process, you must cancel your class reservation at least 14 days in advance to receive a full refund minus a $25 administrative fee. Cancellations received at least seven days before the start of class will receive a 50% refund minus a $25 administrative fee. Cancellations received less than seven days before the start of class are not eligible for a refund. To request a refund, please call the Torggler at (757) 594-0800.
