Homeschool Young Artists Studio
Classes in the Young Artists' Studio series are studio classes specially designed for homeschooled students, giving them hands-on experience in various forms of art. Join us for all six unique Fridays or sign up for only the classes you wish to attend. Each class features a different topic and medium. Students will be encouraged to explore their own personal creativity while being provided step-by-step instruction in the technical processes of each medium.
All supplies are included in our Homeschool Young Artists' Studio classes.
Homeschool | 3D Pen Sculpture Creations
In this fun and creative class, students will explore how to use 3D pens to build sculptures! Inspired by the amazing 3D shoes on display in the current exhibition, Future Fossils, young artists will design and create a sculpture of something they enjoy. It might be a favorite food item, a beloved pet, or something related to a hobby or sport. Students will learn how to draw in the air, build structure, and bring their ideas to life in three dimensions. Each artist will leave with a unique sculpture that celebrates something they love!

Homeschool | Dot Painting with Acrylic Paint Pens
In this creative class, students will use acrylic paint pens to create a colorful painting made entirely of dots! Inspired by the exhibition Rising Water by Studio Lemercier, students will explore how artists use placement, spacing, and color intensity to build images and patterns. Students will also discover how artwork can look different up close compared to when you step back to see the whole picture. Through this project, students will think about how looking closely—and looking at the big picture—can change the way we see art and the world around us.

Homeschool | Soft Sculpture Sewing
n this two-part class, students will transform a recycled piece of clothing into a meaningful soft sculpture! Inspired by the T-shirt sculpture in the current exhibition, Future Fossils, young artists will think about how everyday items can be turned into special works of art.
Day 1: Students will design their sculpture by creating a pattern, then learn how to cut fabric, pin pieces together, and safely sew using a sewing machine. Using a recycled fabric item—such as a shirt that has special meaning—artists will begin shaping their sculpture.
Day 2: Students will bring their sculptures to life by adding stuffing and creating details. Using paint and simple hand-sewing, they will add features such as hair, facial expressions, clothing, and other embellishments to make their sculpture unique.
By the end of the lesson, each student will have a personalized soft sculpture made from recycled fabric and filled with creativity and meaning.

Homeschool | Fun with the Sun: Solar Printing
In this bright and creative class, students will explore solar printing, a process that uses sunlight to create beautiful images! Young artists will gather items from nature—such as leaves, flowers, and small objects—to make a collection of solar prints. These prints will then be arranged into a creative collage inspired by the sun.
Students will also learn how the sun has been an important symbol in art from ancient times to today, representing ideas like warmth, energy, and life. As they create, artists will think about what the sun means to them and the feelings it brings, using their artwork to express those ideas.

Homechool | Stained Glass–Inspired Suncatchers
In this colorful class, students will create a stained glass–inspired suncatcher using transparent paints on a clear surface. Young artists will explore how painting with transparent colors allows light to shine through, just like real stained glass.
Students will also learn how stained glass art has been used for centuries to tell stories, especially in churches where windows often share stories from the Bible. Inspired by this idea, each student will design a suncatcher that tells a story of their own. What story will your “stained glass” artwork share when the sunlight shines through?

Homeschool | The Art of Storytelling with Clay
In this two-part class, students will explore storytelling through art and animation! Young artists will begin by creating a story with a main character who has a problem to solve and deciding how the story ends. Inspired by popular claymation videos, students will bring their ideas to life by sculpting their characters and props from plasticine clay.
Day 1: Students will write a short story and create their clay characters and props, thinking about the beginning, middle, and end of their story. Does the story teach a lesson, make a connection, or simply entertain?
Day 2: Students will learn the basics of stop-motion animation. Using a stop-motion app and their plasticine clay creations, they will photograph small movements to create a short animated video of their story. By the end of the class, each student will have created a clay character, a story, and their very own mini animated film!
