About the Exhibition
In honor of the America 250 and Virginia 250 commemorations, Revolution Close to Home: Hampton Roads and the Struggle for American Independence explores the stories of America’s fight for freedom from a local lens. Featuring student research, archaeological finds, immersive AR technology, and artifacts from across the region, this multi-gallery exhibition highlights Hampton Roads’ critical role in the Revolutionary War. In collaboration with fourteen area museums and cultural partners, the exhibition brings history to life through voices, objects, and places often left out of the national narrative.
