Snapshot to Studio - The Art of the Digital Camera
Campers will learn to see the world through a professional photographer's eyes! In this dynamic workshop, students will move beyond basic "snapshots" to explore the principles of fine art photography, including composition, lighting, and creative framing. Campers will learn how to master a digital camera's settings while experimenting with different genres, from portraits and landscapes to abstract "macro" shots. Through daily photo expeditions and studio reviews, students will develop a critical eye and build a digital portfolio of quality works that reflect their personal vision. Cameras will be provided during class, and each student will be given a USB with their images to take home.June 15 - 18

Medieval Treasure - Relics of the Realm

Explore the ancient and beautiful craft of bookmaking in this specialized hands-on workshop! Campers will learn how to create their own handmade journals from start to finish. Students will experiment with a variety of traditional and modern paper-decorating techniques, including suminagashi (the Japanese art of "floating ink" to create ethereal, marbled patterns) and anthotypes (using the power of the sun to create photographic images directly onto paper). Classes that are full will have a waiting list. You can sign up for the waiting list for a specific class by calling (757) 594-0800.
Unless otherwise stated during the registration process, you must cancel your class reservation at least 14 days in advance to receive a full refund minus a $25 administrative fee. Cancellations received at least seven days before the start of class will receive a 50% refund minus a $25 administrative fee. Cancellations received less than seven days before the start of class are not eligible for a refund. To request a refund, please call the Torggler at (757) 594-0800.
